We love to receive book proposals from both authors and agents!
We accept submissions via email or regular mail.

  • Please include as much of the following information
    as possible:

    • A cover letter, including: a brief summary of the book, the approximate length (word count) of your manuscript, and why you think your book is a good fit for Santa Monica Press.
    • A table of contents or outline of the book’s contents
    • Two sample chapters
    • Any photographs or illustrations you believe might assist us in evaluating your proposal (do not send originals!)
    • A brief list of similar or competitive books, including title, author, publisher, ISBN number, and date of publication—all readily available on and other on-line booksellers. Tell us what makes your book unique. How does it differ from your competition? Please do not treat this request lightly; this is extremely important information!
    • Marketing and publicity plans or ideas
    • A description of your book’s target audience
    • A brief autobiographical summary or résumé. What do you, as the author, bring to the project?
    • Your mailing address, daytime phone number, and e-mail address

If you choose to send your proposal via email, please place your cover letter in the body of the email, and the rest of your submission in an attached Word document or PDF. If you would like to receive a response to your mailed proposal, you must include a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope. If you would like to have your material returned, you must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope of the appropriate size with sufficient return postage. Please do not send a mailed proposal in any manner that requires a signature upon delivery.

Note to authors who reside outside of the U.S. and Canada:
We do not accept International Response Coupons and therefore cannot return your mailed material. You may, however, include your email address with your material, and we will send you a response.
